Every piece goes through three stages: sketch, ink, then watercolour. I start with a digital sketch, piecing together your photographs and creating a line drawing which focuses on composition and elements to include/exclude. I've found sketching digitally works best for making quick changes before anything's set in stone. From there I move into ink, building up the detail with different line weights, and finish with watercolour, which is where all the colour, warmth and character really comes through. You'll be updated at each step, with the opportunity for tweaks along the way.

My production time is usually around 6 to 8 weeks, though it can shift slightly depending on the time of year and how full my waitlist is. That time is split fairly evenly across the three stages, so you'll get an update from me every few weeks rather than one big reveal at the end. For the most accurate wait times, it's best to drop me a message. If you need the painting for a specific date, let me know ASAP and I'll do my best to accommodate!

I'm happy to include small pets or figures as part of a larger house portrait, tucked into the garden or by the front door, for instance. What I don't take on are dedicated people or pet portraits, where they're the main focus of the piece, since that's not my area of expertise and not something I feel confident doing justice to. I'd rather be upfront about that than deliver something that doesn't capture them properly, and I'm always happy to recommend other artists who specialise in this.

You can upload your photographs directly through the enquiry form when you submit it, which helps speed things along if you've already got them ready to go. If you're not quite there yet, that's no problem, once you've submitted the form I'll be in touch by email, and you can send them over then along with anything else that helps me understand the place.

Once we've agreed on the size and idea behind the project, I'll send a PayPal invoice for a 20% deposit, which secures your space in my schedule. This deposit is non-refundable, but if your plans change, you're welcome to postpone the project by up to 6 months, depending on my availability at the time. The remaining balance is requested once you're happy with your composition sketch, with full payment due before I begin work on the final piece.

Every painting is shipped flat, wrapped in a rigid, bend-resistant cardboard mailer to keep it safe on its journey. UK orders go out with Royal Mail Special Delivery, tracked and signed for, completely free of charge. International orders are also tracked and signed for, sent via Royal Mail and handed over to your national postal service, usually taking 1 to 2 weeks to arrive, for a flat £30.

I'm trialling taking on commissions on a rolling basis rather than opening set slots throughout the year, though how quickly I can start yours does depend on my current workload. Get in touch at any point and I'll be able to advise on my current turnaround time. If timing matters for a specific date, like an anniversary or a gift, just mention it in your enquiry and I'll let you know what's realistic.
